When to use uuid generator
- Create development record IDs.
- Generate sample identifiers for test data.
How it works
RFC 9562 variant bits are set in 16 random bytes. Version 4 uses random bits; version 7 stores Unix milliseconds in the first 48 bits and randomizes the remaining available bits.
Supported inputs and limits
1–1,000 identifiers per batch. Uses cryptographically secure browser randomness. UUID v7 exposes its creation time and is not strictly monotonic within the same millisecond or across clock changes. No global uniqueness guarantee is possible.
Common questions
Which version should I use?
Version 4 is fully random. Version 7 groups IDs by generation time, which can suit time-ordered records. Follow the requirements of the system receiving the IDs.
Can I use UUIDs as passwords?
No. Identifiers are not a substitute for a password or a carefully designed authorization token.
