When to use remove exif metadata

  • Remove embedded camera and GPS information before sharing.
  • Create a clean image copy for a website.

How it works

Source metadata is inspected locally. Only decoded pixels are drawn to a new canvas. The output container is then checked for the supported metadata blocks.

Supported inputs and limits

Re-encoding may change image quality and color. The check looks for EXIF, XMP, comments and common text containers; it is not a forensic privacy audit. Visible personal information, watermarks and steganography are not removed. Browsers may add technical color or resolution information.

Safety limits are 25 MiB / 32 megapixels on desktop and 12 MiB / 12 megapixels on touch or low-memory devices, with a maximum side of 8,192 pixels. A smaller limit does not guarantee success on every device. Clear the image to release its preview and output.

Common questions

Does this remove location written on the photo itself?

No. Visible text and image content remain. Crop or edit that content separately.

Is it a lossless metadata-only edit?

No. This implementation re-encodes pixels. Review quality and keep your original file.
