When to use resize image to exact kb
- Meet an application portal’s upload limit.
- Prepare a small attachment with an explicit byte budget.
How it works
Try maximum quality, search for the highest quality found under the cap, and reduce dimensions when enabled if minimum quality still exceeds the cap. The tolerance band is below the target, not above it. No padding is added.
Supported inputs and limits
Targets are 0.1–25,000 KB. Output never intentionally exceeds the cap. Byte-for-byte exact sizes are not guaranteed: encoder steps and file headers impose limits. Smaller files may lose detail. PNG ignores quality and may need smaller dimensions.
Safety limits are 25 MiB / 32 megapixels on desktop and 12 MiB / 12 megapixels on touch or low-memory devices, with a maximum side of 8,192 pixels. A smaller limit does not guarantee success on every device. Clear the image to release its preview and output.
Common questions
Why is my file below the exact target?
Image encoders do not provide continuous byte-level control. Simple images may already be far below the target. Padding would add bytes without improving the image.
Can a tiny target preserve the original quality?
Not always. Lower quality or fewer pixels may be required. The tool reports the achieved settings and rejects impossible constraints.
