When to use resize image
- Fit a product photo into a listing.
- Prepare an image for a form or website.
How it works
The browser decodes the image, draws it onto a canvas at the requested size, and encodes a new file. With proportions preserved, scale = min(target width ÷ original width, target height ÷ original height).
Supported inputs and limits
Still JPG, PNG and WebP only. With proportions enabled, two dimensions define a bounding box. Upscaling adds pixels but cannot recover missing detail.
Safety limits are 25 MiB / 32 megapixels on desktop and 12 MiB / 12 megapixels on touch or low-memory devices, with a maximum side of 8,192 pixels. A smaller limit does not guarantee success on every device. Clear the image to release its preview and output.
Common questions
Does resizing also reduce file size?
Usually when dimensions decrease, but encoding format and quality also affect bytes. Use the exact-KB tool when a size cap matters.
What happens to transparent pixels in JPG?
They are placed on a white background. Use PNG or WebP to retain transparency.
